Stewarding empowers us as workers in our place of work. Giving us the tools and support to build the pride and joy of greater engagement through participation in collective action. As a steward you will have the pleasure of witnessing members learn with you.
Training
In this interactive training we will start from your work and lived experiences. You will apply the skills you learn to your challenges in the workplace. You will learn to listen to and support your co-workers.
Sharing and Research
We learn from other’s experiences. We share our stories. We use your stories to improve our training and understanding of workplace empowerment. We keep your identity and information private.
Learning Steps
(1) Intake: Gathering information about a workplace issue.
(2) Action plan: Figure out what to do about the issue.
(3) Management engagement: How to challenge the boss and win just solutions.
What to Expect
(1) Time: Plan to set aside an hour a day for each of the eight segments of this training. This will require your attention and engagement. This is a learning experience, not a quick reference with facts.
(2) Process: You will learn through examples. First your own issue, second an issue you will problem solve, and finally an issue you engage a co-worker with.
(3) Data: You will receive an email with all your work. Spark Union studies how union activists learn and get motivated. We use your data to that end. We will never release any personally identifiable data to anyone. It’s your information to distribute as you wish.
Instructions
(1) Login to Spark Union. If you do not have a login, register. You need to login so you can get the results of our interactive trainings. We do not share your information with anyone.
(2) You need to enter some text in every box. If you have nothing to add or comment, type ‘no’ and move on. When you finish your answer, click the “done” check boxes and the next information and questions will appear.
(3) At the end of each section you will have the opportunity to preview your answers and go back and change them if you like. When you are satisfied with all your answers, click submit. After submitting, proceed to the next section.
