The workplace has no democracy! We don’t get to vote on our bosses. They usually make decisions about the resources.
We can wrest some of this control and have more say in our work lives through our union solidarity.
This does mean we will have to engage the boss. How can we do that in way to both solve our current workplace issue and strengthen our power and union?
We will examine two actions to engage management to support the work place issue of Amara from the previous section. First, we will have a grievance meeting with management. Second, we will do a collective mobilizing action.
For each of these actions, we will examine two different ways to conduct the action: one way will do the best to represent Amara and the other way will focus more on empowering Amara. You will analyze each step as the scenario unfolds.
